Mindfulness meditation is a scientific system of teaching our brain how to get into a state of relaxation. We develop the knack of remaining relaxed, present, in the moment, not overwhelmed by thoughts or emotions. In this state, we are aware.
Being aware of what is going on inside us and around us. The quality of being aware, the quality of observing and being alert – that is meditation.
Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. Listening to the birds can be a meditation if you listen with awareness. Sitting can be a meditation if you are completely aware of your body sitting. Walking can be a meditation if you are aware and note your walking. Observing the voice inside your head can be a meditation if you are watchful and alert.
